Award Conditions

Students must meet certain conditions to maintain eligibility.

ESL
You are permitted to receive financial aid payment for ESL up to 3.33 full time equivalent semesters. If you exceed 3.33 full time equivalent semesters, you may not be eligible for financial aid. If you need additional time to complete your ESL classes, see your advisor. Contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

Remedial Studies
Remedial classes include Pre‑Tech and Basic courses. You are eligible for federal financial aid for up to 30 semester hours of remedial classes. You may be paid federal money for your Pre‑Tech classes, but you are not eligible for any federal money for Basic classes even though Basic classes count in your remedial total. Basic classes will not count when determining enrollment status for payment purposes. Basic classes are courses beginning with 00. You are responsible for paying for your Basic classes.

You Should Know:
If you are a recipient of one or more of the following: Federal Financial Aid (loans, grants or work study), Veterans benefits or funding from the Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you should know the following:

If you change your academic status (withdraw or unofficially withdraw - fail to attend classes), or drop below half-time status, your change in academic status will alter your eligibility for financial aid and cause the following change(s) to occur in funds you have received or are scheduled to receive:

  1. If you were refunded money based upon your original enrollment status, then you withdraw and/or are dropped from your classes, there will be a change in the amount of refund you are eligible to receive. You could receive a bill from the College in order to account for the excess funds which were refunded to you. See Student Withdrawl/Title IV Policies.
  2. If you received funds from the Veteran Administration Agency or the Vocational Rehabilitation Agency based upon at least one half-time enrollment (6 credits), then you unofficially withdrew from a course or courses causing your academic enrollment status to change, you may be required to return funds you received to the funding agency due to this change in academic enrollment status.

NOTE: MANY OF THESE CONDITIONS HAVE NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED BY THE COLLEGE, BUT ARE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL AND STATE REGULATIONS. AS A RESULT, THEY MAY BE CHANGED BY FEDERAL AND/OR STATE ACTION AT ANY TIME.

  1. Financial aid awards are determined on the basis of need and Delaware Tech reserves the right to request that you verify any information used to determine your need for financial aid funds. Delaware Tech also reserves the right to revise or cancel this award if it discovers any discrepancy in the information submitted by you.
  2. Awards are dependent upon acceptance into Delaware Tech and enrollment in an eligible program of study. Only courses accepted as graduation requirements will be covered by financial aid.
  3. You must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) per semester in order to receive payment from most financial aid programs. If you fail to maintain half-time enrollment, your award may be cancelled for that semester.
  4. Basic level courses (courses beginning with 00) are NOT eligible for financial aid payment, and therefore will NOT be included when determining student enrollment status.
  5. The dollar amounts indicated on the Student Financial Aid Award are based upon full-time attendance (12 or more credits), and may be reduced accordingly to reflect three-quarter time (9 - 11 credits) or half-time (6 to 8 credits) attendance. You must inform the Business Office that you are a financial aid recipient when making tuition payments. Failure to complete registration and tuition payment procedures will result in cancellation of financial aid.
  6. Unsatisfactory academic progress is cause for cancellation of financial aid. For a definition of "Satisfactory Progress for Financial Aid Recipients." Official notification of Financial Aid Academic Progress status is on your term grade report.
  7. You should notify the Financial Aid Office of any financial changes that might affect your status as a recipient during the year. The College is willing to consider modifications to awards based on special circumstances if appropriate documentation is presented to the Financial Aid Office.
  8. You must notify the Financial Aid Office of any assistance that becomes available to you during the year from other sources. This requirement specifically includes income from work that was not reported on the original financial aid application. The College then reserves the right to adjust its financial aid offer based on this new information. Failure to report assistance received from an outside source may be cause for cancellation of a financial aid award.
  9. Since all awards depend upon the availability of funds, the College reserves the right to withdraw all or any part of your financial aid because of changes in Federal, State, or institutional funding or budgeting.
  10. As a financial aid recipient, you may be extended credit each semester during registration for tuition and fees up to the amount of your semester award (or as otherwise determined). Credit may also be extended for books if you have funds available after tuition and fees are deducted from your semester award. You are responsible for paying to the College any costs that exceed your semester financial aid award.
  11. Remaining award money which was not used for tuition, fees, and/or books will be issued during the second half of the semester; all processing must be completed and all conflicts resolved. Remaining funds will be disbursed to you via check or electronic transfer by Nelnet, a third-party servicer for the college.
  12. Renewal for financial aid assistance for the next academic year requires reapplication, thus your current financial circumstances may change your eligibility for financial aid and/or the actual amount offered for the next academic year.
  13. If you decline any financial aid award, it may not be re-offered at a later date.
  14. To determine grade level for Stafford Loans calculate only the credits earned plus transferred credits. Grade Level 1/First Year equals (0-30) Credits; Grade Level 2/Second Year equals (>30) Credits.
  15. The Academic year for Delaware Tech is a total of two semesters (15 weeks) and summer sessions during which students may enroll.
