Associate Degree Program

The Associates of Arts in Teaching degree in Elementary Education will prepare you to apply to Delaware Tech's Bachelor of Science in Education degree or transfer to another four-year college or university to become certified to teach in grades K-6.

A focus on educational strategies is an important aspect of our program. You will also have the opportunity to interact with children in a classroom setting through observation and service learning experiences. When you graduate, you will have learned instructional strategies that support the Delaware common core standards for reading, writing, and mathematics.

Program Graduate Competencies

The Program Graduate Competencies listed below identify the major learning goals related to your specific program of study and identify the knowledge and skills you will have when you graduate to be successful in your chosen field.

1. Apply knowledge of the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development of K-6 children in a classroom setting.
2. Demonstrate supportive classroom practices that utilize positive behavioral supports, foster character development, and promote a healthy and safe environment.
3. Demonstrate content area knowledge in literacy, mathematics, science, and social sciences.
4. Apply understanding of multicultural education and sensitivity to and a respect for diversity.
5. Access and employ educational technology.
6. Communicate information about student learning and behaviors in a collaborative manner with school, family and community members.

Core Curriculum Competencies

The Core Curriculum Competencies listed below identify what you will be able to do as a graduate, regardless of your program of study. You will acquire these core competencies through general education courses and program-specific coursework. You will be expected to use relevant technology to achieve these outcomes:
